SkinPen® Precision and Acne Scars

Ice Pick Scars:

  • Ice pick scars are atrophic scarring characterised by deep, narrow pits typically less than 2mm across.
  • These scars extend deeply into the skin, resembling the appearance of being punctured by an ice pick or a similar object.

Boxcar Scars:

  • Boxcar scars are characterised by their angular shape and sharp, vertical edges.
  • They can vary in depth from shallow to deep.
  • Most commonly found on the cheeks and temples.

Rolling Scars:

  • Caused by damage beneath the skin surface, giving it a wave-like appearance.
  • They are typically wide and shallow.

Mechanism of Action:

  • Mechanically breaks down scar tissue.
  • Activates cellular enzymes known as matrix metalloproteinases, or MMPs.
  • Remodels scar tissue through the proper deposition of collagen and elastin.
  • Addresses the red and purple discoloration associated with acne scars by increasing blood flow.
  • Addresses the brown discolorations, or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), associated
with acne scars by stimulating the skin’s natural growth factors.
